Let Us Help You

Chronic pain is pain lasting for more than 6 months. It may be a result of conditions such as diabetes, arthritis or cancer, it may be due to injury or previous surgery, or it may be a primary problem as in the case of nerve pain. Chronic pain can have lasting effects on your everyday life and your mental wellbeing. Over 25 million Americans suffer from daily pain, while over 100 million Americans have experienced chronic pain.

The sensation of pain comes from signals traveling from the source of pain through your nervous system to your brain. Chronic pain results when those nerves continue to send pain signals even after the original source may have healed. Interventional pain physicians work to target and treat the source of these atypical pain signals.

Interventional pain management involves minimally invasive procedures targeted at blocking the source of pain. It is usually performed by licensed physicians who are fellowship-trained in pain medicine and board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology both in anesthesiology and pain medicine. Interventional pain physicians help patients alleviate chronic pain through a variety of modalities including injection therapy, nerve stimulation, cold therapy, and radiofrequency ablation. Some more specialized procedures Dr. Almonte also performs include balloon kyphoplasty for vertebral compression fractures and a variety of novel approaches to treating pain associated with spinal stenosis.

You may be a candidate for interventional pain management if conservative measures have been unsuccessful in treating your chronic pain. If your pain is interfering with your daily life, Dr. Almonte and his team can help create a customized plan to help you take charge of your chronic pain. We can work with you to help determine which treatments you may benefit from most in order to restore function and improve your quality of life.
